The Les Macherelles vineyard, known for its stony soils, imparts a distinctive mineral character to the wine. Bursting with vibrant white fruits of pear and citrus, with subtle notes of honey and spice on the palate. Crisp, well balanced, and a long, intense finish.
Thomas Morey’s Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Macherelles comes from one of the less-publicised but well-positioned Premier Cru vineyards on the slope just north of Chassagne village. Morey, whose winemaking heritage stretches back over ten generations in the Côte de Beaune, produces wines that are known for their focus and restraint. This Chardonnay is fermented and aged in oak (a modest proportion new), allowing the terroir’s character to shine.
Aromas of white peach, almond, and subtle spice. The palate is precise and structured with flavours of stone fruit, citrus oil, and a faint smokiness. A long mineral finish is supported by firm acidity and refined oak integration.
Contains sulphites.
Macherelles is a lesser-known Premier Cru but benefits from similar soils and exposition to its more famous neighbours. Thomas Morey, who split from the family domaine in 2007, is known for highlighting these nuanced sites with a minimal-intervention approach—offering Premier Cru precision without the grand cru price tag.
