Domaine Jean-Max Roger Sancerre Cuvee Genése

Cuvée Genèse is a Sancerre Blanc from Domaine Jean-Max Roger, made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grown around the village of Bué in the eastern Loire. The vineyards sit on stony limestone soils known locally as caillottes, which give the wine its fresh, mineral character. Aromatically, it combines citrus and white flowers with ripe fruit, while the palate has a little more weight and texture than a simple, zesty Sauvignon Blanc. Fermentation uses natural yeasts, and the wine is aged on its lees to develop extra complexity before bottling.

The Roger family have been making wine in Bué since at least the 17th century. Cuvée Genèse is made from the family’s ancestral vineyard plots and takes its name from the idea that these wines helped shape the identity of the domaine. The vineyards lie on caillottes — small, hard limestone stones that warm quickly and drain freely. The wine is fermented using natural yeasts or carefully managed yeast additions, then kept on its lees to build texture and complexity.
