Lamy Pillot Chassagne Montrachet Rouge 2016

Domaine Lamy-Pillot's 2016 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge is a Pinot Noir from the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy. Red Burgundy from this area can be overshadowed by the region's famous white wines, but Chassagne-Montrachet has a long history of producing reds too. The 2016 vintage offers ripe cherry and dark berry fruit, with earthy notes, gentle spice and firm but fine tannins. A year of contrasting weather conditions led to a later harvest, allowing the grapes to reach good maturity. Now with bottle age, the wine should show more savoury, developed character alongside its fruit.

Domaine Lamy-Pillot was founded in 1973 by René Lamy and Marie-Thérèse Pillot, both from families with generations of winemaking experience. Today, their daughters Florence and Karine continue the family business. Around half the estate's vineyard area is planted with Pinot Noir, which is unusual for a village best known internationally for Chardonnay. Their red wines include both village-level bottlings and Premier Cru vineyards, with the family aiming to let the character of each site and vintage come through.
