Montes Purple Angel is a premium red wine from Chile’s Colchagua Valley, showcasing the Carmenère grape at its most refined. Made primarily from Carmenère with a small percentage of Petit Verdot, this wine reflects the full ripeness achievable in Chile’s warm, dry climate. Aged for 18 months in new French oak, it balances richness with structure.
Intense aromas of ripe blackberry, plum, and mocha, with notes of sweet spice and tobacco. The palate is full-bodied and smooth, with dark chocolate, black cherry, and peppery undertones, supported by firm yet polished tannins and a long, warming finish.
Contains sulphites.
Purple Angel has become a flagship for Carmenère, a grape once mistaken for Merlot in Chile and nearly extinct in its native Bordeaux. Montes was among the first to identify its potential, planting it at high altitude in Apalta. Today, Purple Angel is regarded as one of the world’s top expressions of Carmenère, helping redefine Chile’s reputation on the global fine wine stage.
