At 40 years of age this majestic Eiswein is drinking at its absolute peak right now. Luscious candied fruits, great freshness, a special wine!
Paul Anheuser Kreuznacher Eiswein 1983 is a rare and beautifully mature German sweet wine from the Nahe, made from grapes harvested at the very end of the growing season. Deep amber-gold in colour, it offers remarkable aromas of dried apricot, honey, marmalade and preserved citrus, with hints of saffron and toasted nuts. Despite its age and richness, the palate retains a remarkable seam of acidity, giving the wine balance, freshness and a long, complex finish.
Dried Apricot, Honey, Orange Marmalade, Preserved Lemon, Saffron, Toasted Almond
Contains sulphites.
Eiswein is made from grapes that are left on the vine until they naturally freeze, concentrating the sugars and flavours without concentrating the acidity. The grapes must be harvested while frozen and pressed immediately, with only the concentrated juice extracted from the ice-crystal-filled berries. The 1983 vintage is now more than four decades old, making this a particularly unusual opportunity to taste just how well a great German Eiswein can develop over time.
