Cantina Orsogna Terrae Montepulciano d’Abruzzo

Spiritus Terrae Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is a full-bodied red from Cantina Orsogna in Abruzzo, southern Italy. Made from 100% Montepulciano, it combines ripe dark-fruit flavours with spice and a savoury edge. The palate is generous and structured, with firm tannins balanced by fresh acidity. Fermentation takes place spontaneously, and the wine is matured in concrete tanks, large wooden casks and bottle. It has plenty of character and works particularly well with rich, hearty food.

Cantina Orsogna was founded in 1964 and has grown into a cooperative of hundreds of local growers. The Spiritus Terrae range focuses on native Italian grape varieties and biodynamic winemaking. The vineyards lie between the slopes of Majella National Park and the Adriatic coast, at around 400–500 metres above sea level. The Montepulciano grapes are grown biodynamically, and fermentation uses naturally occurring yeasts rather than a selected commercial strain.
