A lovely deep ruby colour with notes of raspberry on the nose follow through to pick up herbaceous elements on the palate. Not as full bodied as its well known Argentinian cousin; a delicious, approachable Malbec.
Amalia by Antonio Borga is a bold, oak-aged Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir) from the clay-rich plains of Chiarano in Veneto’s Trevenezie IGT. Hand-picked grapes are fermented on skins for about 10 days, then matured for twenty-four months in a mix of barriques and large oak casks before a further six months’ bottle age. The result is a structured yet expressive red that balances rich fruit with savoury depth.
Deep garnet-ruby hue. Precise aromas of wild blackberry, forest fruits and dried rose petal overlay subtle tones of cracked black pepper, cinnamon and clove. The palate is warm and enveloping, supported by firm, mouth-coating tannins; layers of dark berry compote and earthy spice linger on a long, generous finish.
Contains sulphites.
‘Amalia’ is named after a legendary Borga family matriarch celebrated for her fearless determination—mirrored in a wine made only from the very best four barrels each year. With its rare, long oak ageing for a Pinot Nero from Veneto, Amalia shows how this variety can thrive outside its traditional heartlands while still delivering depth, spice and cellar potential.
