The finest wine to be produced in the St-Estèphe commune in this vintage, offering beautifully sweet cassis and blackcurrant fruit, some floral notes, spice and a touch of oak in a full-bodied and exuberant bottle.
The 2005 Cos d’Estournel is a magnificent example of this renowned Saint-Estèphe estate at the height of its power. From one of Bordeaux’s greatest vintages, it blends Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with small portions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Deep garnet in colour, it opens with intense aromas of blackcurrant, plum, cedar, and exotic spice. The palate is rich and layered, with perfectly integrated tannins, remarkable depth, and a long, graceful finish that will continue to evolve for decades.

Château Cos d’Estournel is instantly recognisable by its striking pagoda-style architecture, inspired by the founder Louis-Gaspard d’Estournel’s fascination with the East. Known as the “Maharajah of Saint-Estèphe,” he exported his wines as far as India in the 19th century — a spirit of adventure that still defines the estate’s distinctive identity today.
