Plush black fruit, spice, Mediterranean herbs, silky tannins, savoury depth, dark complexity, seamless structure, and long finish.
El Senyal Negre is a red wine from Celler Alimara, located in the Terra Alta region of Catalonia. It is a blend of 60% Garnacha (Grenache), 20% Garnacha Peluda (Downy Grenache), and 20% Carignan. The grapes are sourced from 30-year-old vines grown at 420 meters above sea level in Batea, with the Garnacha Peluda and Carignan coming from the vineyards at Mas de Cabrera in Gandesa. The wine undergoes a 5-day cold soak followed by fermentation in stainless steel at temperatures up to 24°C, with regular punchdowns. After malolactic fermentation, it is aged for 6 months in French and American oak barrels, 20% of which are new.
El Senyal Negre presents a very floral nose filled with lifted ripe strawberries and vanilla fudge, with a hint of blackcurrant. The palate is dominated by red fruits, with plums and strawberries at the forefront. It is mouthfilling but smooth and approachable, rather than tannic.
Contains sulphites.
The name "El Senyal" translates to "The Signal" in Catalan, reflecting the winery's commitment to showcasing the unique terroir of the Terra Alta region. By using organic and sustainable farming practices, Celler Alimara aims to produce wines that authentically express the Mediterranean climate and calcareous clay soils of their vineyards.
