Concentrated berry flavours and a powerful backbone, this is sophisticated wine for grilled souvlaki, or any other slightly flame-tinged meat…
Christos Aïvalis established his winery in 1997 and is now assisted by his son. The majority of his plots lie at 600m above sea level, and many of the vines are over 70 years old (some over 100). The grapes for this wine come from the Gerakina vineyard. The wine is unfined and unfiltered, and aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels.
Full bodied with dark plum and cherry fruit, and notes of black pepper, clove and a hint of bitter chocolate.
Contains sulphites.
Agiorgitiko literally translates as ‘St George’s grape’. Indigenous to the Peloponnese, legend has it that it was wine made from Agiorgitiko that Hercules drank after slaying the Nemean lion.
